Our Literacy Program was established in 2002 through a grant given by the state of California Community-Faith Base Initiative. Governor Gray Davis, awarded Young Talented Achievers $150,000 to help spearhead Literacy in our community. YTA literacy goals are to help decrease illiteracy in our community, further education, and prepare citizens for jobs. We believe in serving the young children, teenagers, and adults of all ethics groups. Our comprehensive program is unique in that our CEO was illiterate herself, and knows how to treat this situation with dignity. Our staff has and continues to provide non-readers and low readers with tools that help them increase their reading level, writing skills, self-esteem, and communication skills. Our participants go forward with dignity, pride, and courage to become productive citizens. “We believe that if you learn to read, you can reach your goals.” Our job is to help every family member get the courage to ask for help and get them reading. Some say it can’t be done, but we say, “It can be done.” We have over 10 years of academic success, which is why we continue this task. Young Talented Achievers unique program produces great success in better grades, increasing reading ability, assist in acquiring GED or high school diploma, self-improvement, confidence, computer skills, job readiness training, and a sense of accomplishment within our participants, result that go far through out their lives. |
